The rich get richer.........and the government turns a blind eye

According to an article by the New York Times "in 2009, the government audited just one in four of the largest corporations, lower than any rate in more than 20 years In much of the last decade, as corporate profits soared and the number of wealthy Americans increased sharply, the I.R.S. periodically decreased the level of scrutiny it directed at individual taxpayers at the top of the income scale. Since 2005, the study reports, the number of hours devoted to audits of the largest companies fell 33 percent, while the hours spent auditing small businesses increased 30.4 percent and rose 12.6 percent for midsize businesses. In the same period, the number of I.R.S. audits of large corporations fell to 3,675 from 4,693, a decrease of 21.7 percent." At a time in our country when corruption and corporate irresponsability is at its highest our government seems to be doing its least to get it under control. The richest companies and the riches people are under the least scrutiny in our society today. With small business and average Americans struggling it is time that we take a look at how these companies made all their money. How these hedge funds, these banks, these stock companies, how these wealthies of the country made their money. Those of us on the bottom know how they made their bucks.....on our backs. If we cannot count on our government to have our backs and to handle the rich, the movers and shakers of our society in check......then who will?
